What Is AO3?

Archive of Our Own (AO3) is a comprehensive, user-supported archive where we provide a space for fans to publish, organize, and discover transformative works. These works include fanfiction, fan art, podfic, and other creative expressions inspired by existing media.

We are built on principles of openness, inclusivity, and respect for fan creativity. Our platform is designed to support both creators and readers through powerful tagging systems, advanced filtering tools, and customizable browsing options, allowing users to find exactly the content they want to explore.

We are committed to protecting the rights of fan creators and to supporting the concept of transformative works. Through our connection to the Organization for Transformative Works, we advocate for the preservation and legitimacy of fan culture worldwide.

How AO3 Works

We allow users to create accounts, publish works, and organize content using detailed tags. These tags describe fandoms, relationships, characters, themes, and content warnings, making it easier for readers to find works that match their interests.

Our system also enables users to leave feedback through comments, bookmarks, and kudos, helping creators connect with their audience.

Creating an Account

To maintain stability and reduce automated account creation, we use an invitation-based registration system. You can request an invitation through our queue and will receive access once an invitation becomes available.

This system helps us ensure a reliable and sustainable experience for all users.

Logging In and Account Access

Once you have an account, you can sign in using your username or email address and password. If you forget your password, you can request a reset through the password recovery process associated with your account email.

Content Ownership

We believe that creators should retain control over their work. When you post content on AO3, you maintain ownership and can edit, restrict, or remove your works at any time within the options provided by the archive.

Safety and Community

We provide tools to help users manage their experience, including content ratings, archive warnings, filters, and user interaction controls. Our policies are designed to promote a respectful and inclusive environment for all participants.

Legal and Non-Commercial Status

AO3 operates as a nonprofit, non-commercial archive. We do not allow monetization of fanworks on the platform. Our mission is to preserve and support transformative works within a legal and ethical framework.

AO3 in Chinese (AO3官网入口 / AO3 China)

We support a global community, including users searching for AO3 China or AO3中文内容. Chinese-language fanworks are part of our archive and can be discovered using language filters and relevant tags within the platform.

For users looking for AO3官网入口 or AO3 in Chinese, we provide the same features and access to fanworks across multiple languages, supporting diverse fandom communities worldwide.
